The Khadi ribbon and cord range is a newly designed and developed product from India that has been created for fibre artists and crafters that you will currently not find anywhere else.

The woven, rugged texture and colours of the Khadi cord are bold and eye catching. Ideal for macramé, weaving, gift wrapping, floristry and other crafts, the Khadi cord is a great new addition to your fibre stash.

Khadi is the term used for fabric that has been hand woven using hand spun, hand dyed cotton and sometimes silk or wool. It has a rich history throughout India originating during the time of the Mahatma Gandhi Swadeshi Movement, a freedom movement in 1920.

The Khadi fabric has been specifically cut so that it can be twisted into the two individual dyed strands which create the cord. Each original cloth is made using a cotton warp and a Tussar silk weft. Each skein is approx. 100g. The ribbons measure approx. 9 metres long.

“If we have the ‘khadi spirit’ in us, we would surround ourselves with simplicity in every walk of life. The ‘khadi spirit’ means infinite patience. For those who know anything about the production of khadi know how patiently the spinners and the weavers have to toil at their trade, and even so must we have patience while we are spinning the thread of Swaraj.”-Mahatma Gandhi
